Why was this program developed?Expand

Scotiabank simplified and streamlined the on-going learning for our branch-based investment professionals. Building Blocks provides an array of learning resources through a structured continuing education approach.

How do I prioritize?Expand

The Building Blocks Self-Assessment will help you identify your strengths and areas of need for professional development. These results will help you prioritize your ongoing learning needs.

What's the 'value add' for experienced investment professionals?Expand

Building Blocks provides you with the most up-to-date learning for your role year-round. It strengthens your knowledge, confidence and competence, and supports continuing career development.

Who monitors and tracks my results/progress?Expand

You are in charge of your continuing education and are expected to track your progress against your Building Blocks Learning Plan. Your manager / coach will want to see how you are progressing and you should be prepared to share your accomplishments. Certain required learning elements will also be tracked for compliance and regulatory purposes and reported accordingly.

Is Building Blocks a mandatory requirement?Expand

The Building Blocks Self-Assessment is mandatory. The continuing education offerings like the Primers and other Learning Resources are necessary elements of the program.

What if I do poorly or fail to participate/complete my Building Blocks Learning Plan commitments?Expand

Opting out of the program may impact your professional development. Failure to complete certain elements of the program, such as required compliance and regulatory courses, could result in suspension of your MFR license.

How do I schedule my learning?Expand

Building Blocks offers continuing education which is meant to be scheduled over the course of a year to help you pace your professional development. The Learning Plan provides a structure for scheduling your learning. Together, you and your manager / coach will set five Coaching Checkpoints at key intervals to track your progress, as well as share and capture insights.
